Michael Jai White has had a curious career. I’ve followed it carefully since I first saw him in the 1997 release of Spawn. Here was guy who had it ALL. Looks, talent, and charisma. He was the total package in 1997. And that package has gone unchanged for over 25 years. He brings more chops to the table than most so called movie stars, especially action stars. Then he shocked us with his writing and comedic abilities with the film, Black Dynamite, a parody of Blaxploitation films. Clearly, Michael Jai White can do it all.
So what happened? Why isn’t this guy a major movie star?
Having followed his career for so closely for so long, I know exactly what the problem is. It’s a unique problem that says a lot about the real nature and purpose of Hollywood. Hollywood has always been about more than entertainment. Hollywood has an agenda.
When I first saw the video interview with the late action star, Jim Kelly, he said something so profound, I almost fell out of my chair. He says it around the 6:15 mark. Listen for it. Because I’ve been saying the exact same thing for years. Whether Mr. Kelly knew it or not, he was clearly addressing the mystery of Michael Jai White.
