When most people think of comics, they usually think of the “Big Two”, Marvel and DC. Little wonder. These two companies totally dominate the marketplace. What most people don’t realize is that both companies have a long history of disrespecting their artists, mainly financially. They’re much like two plantations. That’s why the slave revolt of the image artists is so incredible. Once upon a time, the top artists at Marvel made the bold decision to escape from the plantation. And the rest is history. What Image accomplished is not only a triumph, it’s a lesson for us all. We don’t have to take shit if we don’t want to.
